Start your countdown, the Summer School Class 2022 is
   about to start.

Summer is now under way, and here at the Design Campus we are finishing up the last details to kick-off the second iteration of our summer school: The School of the Untold.

“The program will be radically rooted in an expansive understanding of realities that shape today’s world. We aim to dissect these complex entanglements through materiality. With this in mind, we will dig into the rich collection of the museum to explore the untold stories behind the historic legacy of the exhibited artefacts.

To question materiality is to question museology itself. Within the program, we want to revisit the material-based framework currently structuring the museum’s collection.” Formafantasma, Curatorial Statement

We’re marking the summer months this year with some new features again. One is a dedicated digital event space—our Common Garden—where we will live stream and share with our growing community online some of the amazing programs happening at the Summer School. Including an exclusive inauguration lecture by the Heads of School, Formafantasma, on the themes they have chosen to explore at the Design Campus.

Here is a shout to our Network: If you ever been part of the Design Campus, as a tutor, lecturer or alumni this is specially for you! We said before that once you were here, you became part of the Network, one of the four pillars of the Design Campus. We are working hard to find ways to keep in touch and continue our conversations and collaborations growing. The Common Garden platform is part of this strategy. I hope you can join us again in the garden this year, either online or offline.

A quick reminder, the applications to this year’s Summer School are still open until the 10th of July. Don’t miss out! But if you cannot come, please, share this info far and wide and help us tell people who wants to change the world to join our Summer School of Utopias!

We look forward to welcoming you this summer.

Common Garden

The digital event space of the Dresden State Art Collections

This year, the Dresden State Art Collections (SKD) are launching the Common Garden, a hybrid bridge for museums regardless of location to get connected. Think of a platform where Miro meets Zoom and you have it. It is as interactive and fun as it can be. This year’s Summer School Digital Talks and other events will be streamed live through this platform. If you are not able to join us in the beautiful gardens of Pillnitz, we want to invite you to our digital garden this year.

We hope our conversations on utopic futures will be as stimulating in our digital and real gardens alike.
